New Headteacher starting in September 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,
I am delighted to be able to write to you with the exciting news that, from September 2021, we will welcome Mr Darren McCann as the new Headteacher of Our Lady of Lourdes Nursery and Primary School.

Following a very rigorous two day interview process, involving pupils, staff and Governors along with senior representatives from the Archdiocese and Local Authority, it was unanimously agreed that Mr McCann met and exceeded our requirements in every way.
In due course Mr McCann will introduce himself to you. He is currently the Executive Headteacher of the Federation of St Mary’s Catholic Schools in Newton-Le-Willows. He intends to spend some time at OLOL during the summer term and is currently considering how he can meet as many members of the community as is practicable.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Mrs McDermott for offering to be Acting Headteacher in September 2020 and for keeping the school not simply functioning but moving forward on its journey since then. Stepping into the role of Headteacher is not easy but to do so in the middle of a pandemic and to ensure a calm and seamless transition deserves a level of recognition that is hard to put into words. The Governors recognise all that she has done and on behalf of the entire community we want to say ‘thank you’.
From September Our Lady of Lourdes will be fortunate to have, in Mr McCann and Mrs McDermott, a Head and Deputy whose strengths will complement each other and who together will lead the school into the future.

With best wishes
Carole Baker
Chair of Governors

ps The Governors asked me to include a thank you to the children for their behaviour throughout the interview process. They were welcoming, smiling, co-operative, helpful and polite. The interview panel and the candidates were effusive in their praise of the exemplary behaviour they witnessed.
